Biggie Smalls’ three-bedroom childhood home is on the market. (

CLINTON HILL, BROOKLYN — Living in the bedroom The Notorious B.I.G. once called home — on the block that has been named for the rap icon — will only cost you about $4,000 a month.

The 226 St. James Pl. apartment where the Biggie Smalls grew up has hit the market with an asking price likely much steeper than when he rapped about it being his "one room shack," the New York Daily News first reported.

The 3L apartment is found on the block that was co-named Christopher Wallace Way in honor of the rapper just last week.

Its listing on describes the apartment as an "amazing three-bedroom home…in the desired neighborhood of Clinton Hill historic district."

It comes in a limestone eight-unit prewar condominium building that was recently renovated, the listing says. Inside, renters will find a kitchen with granite countertops, stainless appliances and a windowed dining room with an office.

The building has laundry, bike storage and a common garden and barbecue area.

Biggie grew up on St. James Place in the 1970s, 80s and 90s before rising to fame after dropping his first album in 1994. He is considered one of the greatest rappers of all time.

The co-named street, which extends from Fulton Street to Gates Avenue, was a years-long initiative led largely by mural artist LeRoy McCarthy and the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation. Speakers at the naming ceremony credited Biggie as one of the reasons Clinton Hill has gone from the "red-lined" neighborhood it was when he was growing up there to one of Brooklyn’s hotspots.
